Sir William Douglas, 2nd of Drumlanrig

(c. 1398 - 1458)

Sir William Douglas, 2nd of Drumlanrig, was born circa 1398 in Drumlanrig (modern Dumfries and Galloway region), Scotland. He was the oldest son of Sir William Douglas, 1st of Drumlanrig, and Elizabeth Stewart.

Circa 1416, Sir William married Jane Maxwell, daughter of Sir Herbert de Maxwell of Carlavenock, and Katherine Stewart. Together, Sir William and Jane had the following issue:

a) An unknown daughter (b. circa 1428)

b) William, 3rd of Drumlanrig (c. 1429 - 1464)

A number of other children were likely born to the couple, but their identities are not presently known to contemporary researchers. Additionally, little is known of the life of Sir William other than the fact that he attained a knighthood probably by the 1330s and faithfully managed the vast Douglas family holdings at Drumlanrig. He would pass away in 1458.
